The name for our band was taken from the name of a traditional folk tune; a bawbee was an old silver coin. We have a unique line-up Northumbrian pipes, fiddles and piano.
Frank Farnworth
Frank is one of our band’s fiddlers. Classically trained at school, Frank was leader of the school orchestra, and, as a student, he played for the Combined London Hospitals Orchestra. After a break of playing of nearly 30 years, Frank is now a dedicated folk fiddler. He plays many of the harmonies in our music.
Gordon Greenley
Gordon is our band’s Northumbrian piper. Gordon is interested in many music genres, with a life time love of traditional folk. Not a trained musician, but learned to play the Northumbrian pipes through the traditional teaching method, tutored by the piping virtuoso Adrian Schofield.
Lee Haddock
Lee is our band’s pianist. Classically trained, Lee has been playing the piano since he was six, and plays other music genre, where he is equally competent. The inclusion of a piano in a folk group is unusual, and therefore Lee has composed piano parts for each of our tunes; quite an achievement.
John Newby
John is our band’s other fiddler. John was also classically trained at school, and played in the Midland Youth Orchestra. He regrets that he also had a long break in playing, but now just loves playing folk music, and is also a dedicated folk fiddler. John is innovative in his playing, adding much variety to our music.
